Open a Checking Account

All of our checking accounts come with a Visa Debit Card - issued instantly at account opening! This versatile debit card provides you with instant access to your funds at ATM's and millions of locations worldwide. When shopping, just swipe (or insert) your card, select the “credit” option and sign. Your purchases will be deducted from your checking account and detailed on your monthly statement. 

Make accessing your money even simpler, by adding your First Commonwealth Visa debit card to a digital wallet service and make payments with your phone!

You can  use your First Commonwealth card without surcharge at participating CU$ Network ATMs.


1Minimum combination balance of $2,500 in Savings, Money Market, Checking, VISA Credit Card, Home Equity Line of Credit or Personal Line of Credit on the last day of the month required to avoid the monthly fee.
2Minimum balance of $25,000 in Elite Checking on the last day of the month required.
3The check card limit is the amount of funds you may withdraw on a daily basis at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) or purchase at Point of Sale (POS). Contact First Commonwealth if you plan on making a purchase larger than the limit to discuss options.
4Personal Identification Number activity limits does not include ATMs owned and operated by First Commonwealth FCU, as withdrawals are unlimited for our members when using our ATMs. See locations.
5If the Fresh Start Checking is maintained in good standing and the member's financial situation improves, the account will automatically be upgraded to a Value Checking after one year. For assistance on budgeting, savings and improving your credit, members can use the free GreenPath  program provided by First Commonwealth.
6Effective 7.22.18, all Checking Account Programs that offer free checks will only be eligible to receive Safety Paper style checks for free. Members will incur a charge if they want another style.

Switch My Account

Making the switch to First Commonwealth is as easy as 1 - 2 - 3!

  1. Complete the Close Down Your Old Accounts Form, then mail to your current institution.
  2. Complete the Change Payroll Direct Deposit Form, then provide a copy to your employer.
  3. Complete the Change Automatic Withdrawal Form, then mail or fax the form to each of the companies currently making withdrawals from your account.
