What is a Matrícula Consular Card?
The matrícula consular is a photo identification card that is issued by the Mexican government. The Mexican consulate issues the cards to Mexican citizens who reside outside of Mexico. As many states, municipalities, and businesses (including financial institutions) accept the card as a valid proof of identification, the matrícula consular is a valuable identification card for Mexicans living in the United States.
The matrícula consular card is available to Mexican nationals living in the U.S., including those who have lawful status in the U.S.
How to Apply for a Matrícula Consular
To obtain a matrícula consular card, a Mexican citizen must apply in person at a Mexican consulate in the United States. The consulate district serving First Commonwealth's geographic region is located in Philadelphia. Applicants will be required to pay a fee and present the following information:
- a Mexican birth certificate, naturalization letter, or Mexican passport
