Bethlehem, PA – October 31, 2018 – First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union is thrilled to announce that its Community Engagement & Events Team received a 2018 Spirit of Volunteerism Award from the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley on Tuesday evening.
The Volunteer Center’s Annual Spirit of Volunteerism Awards honor local businesses, individuals or teams who have demonstrated excellence in community service and workplace volunteerism. The event provides area businesses as well as local nonprofits the opportunity to recognize the impact that employee volunteers have on making a difference in the community.

We aim to not only benefit our members, but also to have a positive impact on the community as a whole. Community engagement reflects our mission and values, who we are as a company, and is one of the biggest ways we can individually and collectively help fill a need in our community,” said Tricia Szurgot, Chief Marketing & Experience Officer for First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union. To support its purpose-driven mission, First Commonwealth launched a Social Corporate Responsibility initiative and the First Commonwealth FCU WE Thrive Foundation earlier this year. Through these programs, team members strive to make connections and build relationships that bring individuals, families, businesses and communities together toward a common goal of financial empowerment for all.
First Commonwealth’s Community Engagement & Events Team is comprised of 20 core associates that have collectively contributed over 1,000 hours of community service so far this year through various volunteer opportunities, participation in community events and fundraising activities. Since its inception in March, the Community Engagement & Events Team has partnered with the following charitable organizations: the Alzheimer’s Association of the Lehigh Valley, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley, Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Feed the Children, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Lehigh Valley, Joshua’s Future of Promises, Lehigh Valley Regional Academy Charter School, Miller-Keystone Blood Center, Pinebrook Family Answers, the Salvation Army of the Lehigh Valley, Second Harvest and Greater Berks Food Banks, Tails of Valor, the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley.
